Objective

Enhance Water, Sanitation, And Hygiene (WASH) Services For Refugees And IDPs In Africa

Overview

  • The provision of essential services in large refugee settlements is marred by significant challenges, including the strain on water, hygiene, healthcare, and sanitation facilities. These facilities are often insufficient due to the continuous influx of individuals, a situation further exacerbated by the effects of climate change. Additionally, rural communities surrounding urban areas are experiencing overcrowding, primarily driven by the arrival of low-income IDPs. Adequate measures must be taken to address these issues and mitigate the spread of infectious and airborne diseases, particularly by ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water.
  • CARA has developed the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in rural Africa. This program aims to alleviate the pressing challenges faced by these populations by improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities.
  • CARA recognizes the urgent need to expand essential facilities in overpopulated rural communities hosting IDPs. To combat this issue, CARA plans to construct 20 water boreholes within the next two years. These boreholes will provide clean and safe drinking water to the affected communities, mitigating the risk of waterborne diseases and promoting better hygiene practices.
  • The construction of each water borehole is estimated to cost $6000. CARA's goal is to implement 20 such facilities, ensuring that the overpopulated IDP rural communities have access to sufficient clean water sources.

In View

By implementing the WASH Program for Refugees and IDPs in Africa, CARA aims to address the critical water, sanitation, and hygiene needs of about 200,000 vulnerable persons within two years. This comprehensive intervention will positively impact the health and well-being of recipients, reducing the prevalence of water-related illnesses and improving overall living conditions. Your support and contributions are vital in making this program a success and positively impacting the lives of those affected by displacement and overpopulation.
